Meet the committee

SCF is run by a wonderful, fun, volunteer committee. Their enthusiasm shines through the event they curate and the festival wouldn’t exist without them.

Each named position (outlined below) is effectively a head-of-department.  They need not do all the work themselves, but they are responsible for ensuring the tasks get done and reporting back to the committee.

The roles require different time commitments which we will happily discuss with you.  Some of our volunteers only help at the event, others help sporadically throughout the year as needed, and others spend a bit of time each week working on the festival planning.

The committee meets monthly (and then a little more regularly in the run-up to the festival). SCF cannot be run without our wonderful volunteers.  It’s an excellent way to be a part of our community and we hope want to and will enjoy being part of our team. If you’re interested, please contact us. We can’t wait to meet you!

  President

Every ship must have a captain, and our committee is no exception. Our President doesn't just steer the ship; they also have to manage our motley committee crew, lift moral and sooth disagreements. They must be a master of community spirit, winning over local dignitaries, charming the authorities and keeping everything running smoothly until the big day arrives.

Then after all the fun, they write up a report for the AGM, celebrating our great achievement and gently encouraging everyone to do it all again next year; especially since we made it all look so fun and easy this time.

Current President: Sophie Julian

  Secretary

Now a lot gets said in our committee meetings, so how do we keep track of it all? This is where our Secretary comes in. Keeper of minutes, they help keep us accountable. They know what got said, by whom and what the outcome was. Without them we wouldn't know what was going on, or when the next meeting was...

Current Secretary: Ailsa Hankinson

 Treasurer

Every committee requires a keeper of coin. Our Treasurer tracks every dollar, making sure the bills get paid and the invoices sent. They work with each department head and the executive team to balance and maintain the budget, making sure every festival is the very best it can possibly be.

They also wrangle the annual audit, manage our investments, and help make sure that the festival stays sustainable; not just for this year, but for many more to come.

Current Treasurer: Jim O'Grady
Current Assistant Treasurer: Kathleen Nicholson

 Sponsorship    Seeking Applicant

This free community festival cannot run on good vibes alone and would not be possible without our generous sponsors. Our Sponsorship Manager is vital to gaining and maintaining the relationships with our wonderful sponsors, many of which are local business who have supported us year after year.

Now behind the scenes we also have our Grant Manager, they secure us additional funding purely by asking for it. A well crafted grant application can go a long way.

Current Sponsorship Manager: Hannah Wigan
Current Grant Manger: Position Open

 Marketing

It wouldn't be much of a festival without any guests, so this department is all about getting the word out! Making sure everyone knows that this is an event not to be missed.

Everyone is online these days, and so our Social Media Manager helps us stay connected, giving frequent updates as we secure new and exciting things for this year's festival.

The website is looked after by our Website Manager, who ensures things are up-to-date and running smoothly.

Current Social Media Manager: Chris Bromley
Current Website Manager: Jess Smith

 Entertainment

What would our festival be there was nothing to see... Our Entertainment Coordinator is all about finding the best local talent to showcase on our stages. They make sure to find a little bit of everything so that the diversity of our community get a chance to shine and our attendees are well entertained.

Current Entertainment Coordinator: Laurene Cooper-Fox

 Workshops

At our Arts Hub, you'll find hands-on art activities that attendees of all ages will enjoy. Run by our aptly named Arts Hub Coordinator, who each year finds new and exciting ways to celebrate not only the festival but this community as well; with gorgeous handmade artworks that let you take a little bit of the festival home.

Current Arts Hubs Coordinator: Renate Jacobi

 Stalls

Food, rides, and market stalls aplenty. Our Stalls Convener are the go-to for those keen to share their wares at our festival. They curate the best selection of food vendors, market stalls, community organisations, and displays to make sure every attendee of our festival has the opportunity to see what this great neighbourhood has to offer.

Current Stalls Convener: Team Tovey

 Technical    Seeking Applicant

Lights, colour, and sound help our festival shine bright into the night, all organised by our Technical Manager. They source and organise all our equipment needs as well as the people with the qualifications to set it all up; they are not expected to have the technical expertise to do this on their own. Then on festival day, they make sure everything arrives and is set up in time for the show to begin.

Current Technical Manager: Position Open

 Volunteers    Seeking Applicant

On the day of the festival, many hands make light work, and this is where the Volunteer Coordinator shines. Throughout the year, they find us amazing volunteers who will help not only in setting up the festival but also in running parts of it. On the day, they are the main point of contact, assigning our volunteers jobs and making sure everyone takes sufficient breaks and stays well hydrated.

Current Volunteer Coordinator: Position Open

 Mascot

Our Mascot is responsible for representing the festival with charm, poise, and an unwavering character. They attend promotional events, photo ops, and, of course, maintain a visible presence at the festival itself. While not being known for giving speeches, their presence speaks volumes. They spark anticipation, encourage participation, and help connect us to our community.

Current Mascot: Binjamin

 General Committee    Always Welcome

General Members are always welcome. We ask that you attend our monthly meetings and get involved in the discussion. You will enjoy voting rights and have a very real say on the direction of the committee. As festival day approaches and things get busy, a willingness to step up and get more involved would be greatly appreciated.

Current General Members: Joseph Cochrane, Steve Dixon

Sherwood Community Festival promotes a culture of inclusivity and mutual respect.  It is okay to have differences of opinion, these are what make a strong community and committee as we represent a variety of demographics from our neighbourhood.  The ongoing success of the event depends on an inclusive and positive culture surrounding the festival.  As such, interactions both internally with committee colleagues, and externally as a representative of Sherwood Community Festival should always be positive and solution focused.

If this sounds like something you'd like to be a part of, then today is a great day to join!
